THE RIVER ALWAYS FLOWS
Rivers are more than just flowing water – they shape landscapes, support ecosystems, sustain communities and permeate our memories and stories.
In ancient myths, they were considered celestial constellations stretching across the earth. For the people of the Amazon, they are the mirror of the sky, reflecting the stars on the water's surface.
This work is part of an ongoing project about the River Sûre – a place that is deeply interwoven with my own biography. I grew up on the banks of the river, and many of my family members still live near it.
Its calm, constant presence shapes our daily lives. Most of these photographs were taken during repeated visits to the same spot – a place where I often sat and read as a child.
In my pictures, the river appears as a heavenly being: its surface shimmers like distant galaxies, connecting landscape and memory, past and present.
Becoming a metaphor for the passage of time – a silent witness to the life that flows past its banks.
This work is currently on show until 20.12.25 at Clervaux Cite de L'Image, Luxembourg
